When people mention about France’s famous luxury brand Hermes, no one would miss the classic Birkin bag. Even a common Brikin bag can cost about RMB50,000, and if the bag is made from alligator or ostrich leather, the price will be much higher. Although the price is high, it worth it, for the bag keeps the traditional exquisite craft of Hermes. The whole process is like making top harness in a very traditional handmade manner. Every bag is sewed by hand with needles and lines, and this means that if you want to get a Hermes bag you have to wait for about half a year. Of course, this careful making process permits it such high position in fashion circle.

Hermes is kind of a symbol of status, if you ask who owns most Birkin bags, Vitoria Beckham must pop into the answer list. Her love for the Hermes Birkin is obvious, and there are tons of pictures of her holding different Hermes purses on newspapers and magazines. Tabloids have it that she has almost 800 Hermes bags, a full collection of them. Is she aware that there are millions of women so jealousy of her?

I have been a fan of the Hayworth style bag from DVF since it’s inception a few seasons ago and though the black python with studs is still my favorite, this silver hayworthperforated.jpgperforated version is onthe top of my list of must have bags for Spring 2010.  The Hayworth is simple in design but packs a strong punch with scallop edged perforated leather. Unlike many other perforated bags, this is much more subtle as the scallop edges look more like snake scales than random holes punched in the leather. This is a bag that will get plenty of wear through the spring and beyond to the fall season– silver is timeless and netural, so easy to throw on with everything.  If you don’t have a metallic bag in your bag wardrobe, you need to add one.  At 5 it is reasonably priced for a versatile bag– the removable shoulder strap has adjustable buckle so it can be used as a cross body bag (as we saw plenty of for Fall 2010!).  Convenient outer pockets on both sides that do not flop over (hate that!) plus interior compartments– there are not many great options for the under ,000 bags but this is definitely one of them!  Grab the Diane von Furstenberg Hayworth Perforated-Leather Tote at Net-a-porter.com now!

Chilly but HOT was the theme Karl Lagerfeld chose for the Chanel Fall Winter collection. He is known for his theatrics and he does not disappoint. The bags were for the most part incredibly wearable and updated to keep us finicky girls happy, but there were those show stoppers that make you wonder if he is playing a joke on us. Like the hot water bottle holders. They are in fact for hot water bottles, and if you have a bad back like me, then they come in handy. If not, they still served their purpose helping usher along the arctic theme for the runway show. Fur on a bag is never my style, nor does it make much sense, but it must be done since everyone does it. But this season, the fur is all faux. I guess that negates my argument that fur on a bag is an inappropriate use for warmth.

I do love all the ice crystals that are embellished on to the classic flap, as well as, minaudieres that are a cube of ice. They are made of Perspex, which is a brand of lucite, so basically, acrylic. But they are incredible because they produce exact clarity, color and shape.

The new shape, partially ruched python shoulder bag. Yes, you know it, it is my one new love this season. Still classic and very Chanel – it’s a new bag yet it looks like it could have been from a different era. The definition of timeless! Ruching and pleating makes python so much more interesting, I guess I’m just spoiled by so much python that I need some point of interest to excite me.

The big seller for them is going to be the white to black degrade flap bags. It reminds me of dirty old snow that has been sitting on the side of the road for months. Didn’t realize that could be such a great look when done right! I hope they do this on their classic totes, it would be ultra fab! This is something athletes’ wives and suburban housewives will be clambering for.

This is shockingly sloppy for a Jil Sander. Not at all what I expect from a brand that is built on clean lines and immaculate tailoring. Yes, I expect the tailoring to translate to the bags as well because to me there is a certain amount of clean tailoring to quality bags that make it appealing. A cowl neck slouchy piece hanging off a bag is not appealing. Let’s leave the draping for dresses and use the body of the bag for slouching if so desired, please. I’m just disgusted because I hold Jil Sander in such high esteem for avoiding exactly this type of dregs. Don’t buy this bag, but it’s at Net-a-Porter for 75.

bottega-veneta.jpgBottega Veneta always do texture particularly well, and their big-weave spring and summer collection really set the tone for many designers this year. Great to see they’re still leading by example in the autumn/winter range, which is full of tactile delights. We’re also loving the colour palate used here, which is predominantly dark, but includes some opulent splashes of colour, as in the leaf-green tote (above left).

limitred-collection-clutch.jpgIt’s not getting any cheerier out there. Which for some of us provides a great excuse to go and seek out brightness and colour elsewhere – in this case, in the shape of fun, high street accessories.

chanel-fake-fur1.jpgFur has made a bit of an uncomfortable comeback on the catwalk lately, so I was delighted to learn that the pelts on display at Chanel’s Fall 2010 shows were as fake as fake can be. The fun fur was so realistic that if I hadn’t been told up front that no animals were harmed in the making of the fluffy adornments, I’d have been feeling pretty unwell by the end of the show.

Louis Vuitton's fifties-inspired Fall 2010 bags - paris fashion week #pfwJust when we thought we’ve seen every iteration of the logoed Louis Vuitton bag, they go and make a brand new one. And another one. Marc Jacobs channeled the fifties era in his Fall 2010 Louis Vuitton show and the models wore corseted full skirted dresses accessorized with high ponytails, chunky heeled pumps adorned with flat bows and a slew of structured handbags. The Speedy silhouette gets a makeover in various materials, ranging from smooth and simple calf leather with a single raised LV logo, an ostrich and canvas pairing, laser-cut and burnout LV monogram canvas, crocodile and patent vernis, embellished in sequins, and woven. Despite the use of a single silhouette, the variety of bags will appeal to all bag lovers – from die-hard Louis Vuitton fans to ladies who lunch and all gals in between.
